This is an artist presentation of a collaborative project on mapping and psychogeography: the www.lencois.art.br. It is an artistic project of urban experimentation of the city Lencois, in Brazil.
The small town is located in the countryside of Bahia. And different from large cities, it does not have a precise map of its streets available to the public. Even website as GoogleMaps, MapQuest, Yahoo!Local don't have a map of the town.
The mapping project will be done during the event Sumidialogia#3 (http://submidialogia.descentro.org). Where during 3 days people (visitors and city habitants are invited to go around town experimenting, interpreting and deconstructing the urban. As in the Situationist drive, they are supposed to go aimless around town, letting the city guide them to places maybe before undiscovered by the wanderer.
With a mobile phone, these wanderers record their paths: photographing, making video, audio and texts of the scenery and experienced emotions. The material is send by mms and is published automatically on the project website. Together they carry a "sort of" paper map where they draw their paths. After this, all the maps will be over-posed creating an animated mapping of Lencois based on these person's experiences.
Using mobile technology and plain paper and pen, Lencois.art.br project is a mixture of low and high tech. There is no GPS or precise maps; mapping is created by the draws on a sheet of paper and the images and sounds recorded during the drive.
PS: Please keep in mind that the project performance will take on December 8-10th and the final animated map will be online by January.
